Calumet Man to Serve as Executive Director for Michigan Humanities Council

    Great Lakes Radio News UpdateMARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News)The Michigan Humanities Council has selected an Upper Michigan man as its new Executive Director.

    Erik Nordberg of Calumet will begin serving as in the position on May 1. Nordberg previously served on the MHC Board of Directors for eight years. Before his term ended in 2011, he served on a number of committees and was extremely active in programming and advocacy.

    He has worked at Michigan Tech in Houghton since 1994, most recently as the University Archivist and Head of Archives.

    Also in news from the MHC, Escanaba resident Kelvin Smyth has been elected to the Board. Smyth previously served on the board in 2004-08, and is one of eight new members for the statewide organization. He will serve a three-year term.

    Smyth is recently retired from the NewPage Corporation coated paper mill in Escanaba. He served as the government and community affairs manager at the facility for 19 years.
