Gwinn Man Sentenced to Prison for Hit-And-Run Felonies

    Great Lakes Radio NewsMARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News)A Marquette County man convicted in a fatal hit-and-run accident last July 4th in Marquette has been sentenced to prison.

    30-year-old Luke Huotari of Gwinn was sentenced today to 18 months to five years in prison for two felony counts of failure to stop at the scene of an accident causing serious impairment or death.

    He was convicted after turning himself in to police as the driver in an accident in South Marquette that claimed the life of 42-year-old Karin LaChappelle of Marquette and seriously injured her 39-year-old husband Bryan.

    The couple were on their way to watch a fireworks display when the accident occurred at the intersection of South Front and Genesee Streets.

    Huotari turned himself in three days later and plead guilty in January to the charges.
