Lake Effect Storm Caused Multiple, Multi-Car Pileups

    Winter storm caused multiple multi-car pileupsMARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News)White-out conditions during the lake effect storm that spread across lower Michigan Thursday resulted in at least three multiple vehicle pileups, one of them deadly.

    A massive crash involving more than 30 vehicles on Interstate 75 in metro Detroit resulted in the deaths of one adult along with a seven-year-old boy and a nine-year-old girl. More than a dozen people were hospitalized.

    In Van Buren County on the west side of the state, a crash involving eight semi trucks and six cars forced the closure of westbound I-94 for several hours yesterday afternoon. One of the semi drivers was seriously injured, and there were other motorists with minor injuries.

    U.S. 23 had to be closed near Flint when winter conditions caused more than 20 vehicles to crash. About a dozen people went to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
