Snyder unhappy with Pure Michigan ad on RTW MARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News)Governor Snyder doesn’t appear happy with a Pure Michigan ad sponsored by Michigan Economic Development Corporation that ran in the Wall Street Journal last week touting Michigan’s new status as a right-to-work state.

Snyder said yesterday at the Michigan Agri-Business Association annual meeting in Lansing that he would have “preferred it had a much broader definition” when it comes to touting the state as a good location for new businesses. He said there was a long list of reasons that the state was business friendly, and that’s what the MEDC’s ads should emphasize.

But the Governor didn’t disagree with the spirit behind the ads, or the fact that Pure Michigan branding is used for business in addition to tourism advertising. He also admitted he did not review the ad before it was printed.

Senate Minority Leader Gretchen Whitmer says Snyder should order a “full investigation” into this “terrible idea” and not allow the misuse of the Pure Michigan brand to be used again.
