Trial Date for Gwinn Man Charged in Hit-And-Run Set

    Man accused of hit-and-run trial date setMARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News)The trial date has been set for a Marquette County man charged in a fatal hit-and-run accident.

    31-year-old Luke Huotari of Gwinn appeared yesterday in Marquette County Circuit Court for a pre-trial conference. Huotari is charged two counts of leaving the scene of a personal injury accident causing serious impairment of a bodily function or death.

    He is accused of driving the vehicle in a hit-and-run accident on July 4th in Marquette that claimed the life of Karin LaChappell and injured her husband, Bryan.

    The couple were walking to the waterfront to view the fireworks display when they were hit by a vehicle as they crossed South Front Street. The vehicle then left the scene, heading south towards Harvey.

    The trial is scheduled to begin on January 22. Huotari is currently free on bond.
