Firearm deer season comes to an endMARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News)Michigan’s firearms deer season comes to an end just after sundown tonight, but State Natural Resources officials are pleased with reports of another successful hunt.

Brent Rudolph of the DNR, says an estimated 671,000 people participated in the two-week firearms hunt this year, which is a two percent increase over last November. That combined with good weather should result in bigger harvest numbers.

However, Rudolph says they won’t have a handle on even a preliminary estimate until at least next week after they review deer check station activity observations from deer processors, and conservation officers in the field.

Rudolph says final numbers on the 2012 firearms season will not be known until about the middle of next year, after results of a hunter survey are compiled.
