Increased Police Patrols on Halloween in Marquette County

    Marquette County cracking down on drunk driving for HalloweenMARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – Halloween isn’t just for kids anymore, and with more adults enjoying parties and celebrations, police have begun a crackdown to keep drunks off the roads.

    Marquette County authorities are joining more than 60 law enforcement agencies in 15 Michigan counties with increased police patrols on the roadways through October 31.

    The Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning says last year’s effort resulted in 261 arrests for drunk driving and 99 of those arrested had a blood alcohol level of .17 or higher.

    Eleven people died in traffic crashes from October 28 through October 30 last year, and two of those deaths involved alcohol. Five motorists who died were not wearing seat belts, while two of the victims were pedestrians.
