Marquette, MI – July 14, 2020 – Our latest update with Active Physical Therapy is all about the pains in our back, hip and leg known as sciatica.
JJ Sadler, PT, DPT, Physical Therapist at Active Physical Therapy in Marquette, joined Mark & Walt in the Morning to talk about sciatica or sciatic neuritis. Sadler said that refers to pain and symptoms that radiate down the sciatic nerve that are often associated with a problem originating in the lower back.
He outlined several of the possible reasons why the condition can develop, ranging from degenerative spinal osteoarthritis to nerve entrapment to inflammation and swelling from arthritis, sprains, joint slippage or infection.
Sadler also explained that the symptoms can include, but are not limited to, pain that may be sharp that feels like electric shocks, discomfort or numbness, to muscular weakness and gait dysfunction. He also talked about how sciatica is diagnosed and how a physical therapy regimen can be used in treating it.
