Marquette, MI – July 13, 2020 – The National Weather Service weather radar operated at the Negaunee Township location is offline for about two weeks for upgrades. Matt Zika from the National Weather Service joined Mark & Walt in the Morning to talk about the shut down.

Zika says the radar is down to refurbish and replace the pedestal, which is necessary for antenna rotation and positioning. He says the work is requiring the radome to be removed by crane and replaced when the work is completed.

Zika says the The Weather Service says the work is needed to keep the radar functioning for another 20 years or more.
