Marquette, MI – (06/01/20) – Dave Lorenz, VP of Travel Michigan, checked in with Walt & Mark in the Morning today to share his thoughts on summer travel and tourism following the Memorial day weekend.
Lorenz says that more businesses are beginning to open and people are planning to do some travel as the summer progresses. He says as more COVID-19 restrictions on gatherings and businesses are lifted, more people will be visiting communities around the state.
He stressed that while travel is not recommended on a wide-spread scale at this time, he is working with Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s office and travel and tourism industry representatives to develop guidelines to get the industry fully functional when restrictions are lifted. Lorenz says that the guidelines will serve a roadmap for industry businesses to follow to get back online quickly and safely.
Lorenz said the proposed guidelines will be presented to Governor Whitmer as early as this week, and he is optimistic that the industry, as a whole in the state, will begin to get back in business within the next several weeks.
