Marquette, MI – (05/18/20) – State Senator Ed McBroom called in to Mark & Walt in the Morning today and shared some of his thoughts after delivering an impassioned speech in the state Senate last week about the impacts on the U.P. made by Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s COVID-19 executive orders.

McBroom, a Republican, said he originally supported Democrat Whitmer’s plans for responding to the COVID-19 pandemic, but began to change his mind as his office was inundated by calls from constituents from across the U.P. saying the orders were hurting small businesses and were potentially devastating to the tourism and recreational industries in Upper Michigan.  He added that the callers were also voicing frustrations at not being able to get medical treatments as needed.

McBroom said that all he is looking for from the Governor is a full explanation of the science and advice she is using to continue to her orders and to give Yoopers a voice at the table as the decisions related to them are made.
