Marquette, MI – (11/15/19) – State Senator Ed McBroom joined Mark & Walt in the Morning today to talk about the Senate passage of a State House bill ending the ban on feeding and baiting of deer and elk in Michigan. An amended version of the legislation passed this week in the Senate and now goes back to the House for a final vote before heading to the Governor’s desk.

McBroom said he understands that the ban was set up by the Michigan Natural Resources Commission amid concerns about the spread of chronic wasting disease in the deer herd, but it is hurting the sport of hunting and local businesses.

He acknowledged that Governor Gretchen Whitmer is opposed to the lifting of the ban, and she may not sign it into law. He encouraged Whitmer to listen to the lawmakers who are representing citizens who want the ban lifted, adding that his office has been hearing from constituents who want the ban lifted by a 3 to 1 margin over those who want to keep it in place.
