Marquette, MI – (11/05/19) – On our latest Upper Peninsula Health Plan Update we put the focus on diabetes this month as it is National Diabetes Awareness Month.

Don Moisio, Pharmacist at UPHP, joined Mark & Walt in the Morning today to talk about condition.  Moisio explained what diabetes is and said 30 million U.S. adults, which is about 1 out of every 10 people, have it. He also talked about the types of diabetes as well as the condition of pre-diabetes.

Moisio said that pre-diabetes is a serious health condition where blood sugar levels are higher than normal but not high enough to be diagnosed as diabetes.  He said more than 1 in 3 people have pre-diabetes and 90% of them don’t know they have it, and it’s very important to talk with your doctor about diabetes, as it is preventable.
