Special Film Screening Event This Thursday In Marquette For PTSD Awareness

Marquette, MI – (11/05/19) – A free event focusing on PTSD awareness and education is happening this Thursday, November 7th, at NMU’s Jamrich Hall at 6pm.

Ashlyn Jendro, MSU Extension Veterans Outreach Coordinator and Tina Thompson, Senior Clinical Instructor at MSU, joined Mark & Walt in the Morning this week to discuss the evening’s events. Jendro said the documentary film, “Almost Sunrise”, which features two retired soldiers who are battling the moral injuries of war and the temptations of suicide, will be shown.

Thompson said that a portion of the evening’s discussions will focus on the concept of moral injury, which has do to with the deeper emotional struggles that many veterans go through in coming to terms with the things they saw or engaged in while in combat.

Jendro added that there will also be special guest speakers, representatives from the Escanaba Vet Center, and resources available on site for those who need immediate PTSD assistance.
