Marquette, MI – (mediaBrew Communications) – Enrollment numbers are looking up at Northern Michigan University, and we had the chance to get into them in some detail today on our latest Wildcat Wednesday segment.
Jason Nicholas, Director of Institutional Research at NMU, joined Mark and Walt in the Morning to break down the numbers.
Nicholas said that the current headcount at the university is is 7,732 students, which up about 1.8% from last year and ends 8 years of declines in enrollment.
He added that Freshman numbers are showing the third straight year of new classes over 1,500, with 1,601 students this year, up +18.2% over 2016.
Nicholas also said that those students are primarily coming from the U.P. and the rest of the state, with the geographic breakdown at: 25% from Marquette County, 40% from the U.P., 80% from Michigan and 20% from other states and countries.
Popular programs are Biology, Medicinal Plant Chemistry, Nursing, Art and Design, Criminal Justice, Forensic Biochemistry, Psychology, Marketing, Electrical Line Technician.
