MARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – Two Marquette County agencies are receiving special recognition from the Michigan Department of Transportation today.

M-DOT Director Kirk Steudle will recognize the Marquette County Convention and Visitors Bureau for adopting the Marquette Welcome Center in Harvey, and the Iron Ore Heritage Recreation Authority for its work on the trails in Marquette County.

MCCVB Executive Director Pat Black joined The SUNNY Morning Show with Walt & Mike today to discuss the recognition and how her group got involved.

In May, the Visitors Bureau became the first tourism organization in Michigan to participate in the Adopt-A-Welcome Center program, providing a volunteer to expand operations at the Marquette Welcome Center to seven days a week through the year.

Also in May, M-DOT and the Michigan DNR provided funding to the Iron Ore Heritage Recreation Authority to expand the existing trail by 12 miles, to a total of 48 miles.
