Negaunee, Michigan– 12/05/2017– This Tuesday night was opening night for our Negaunee Boys basketball team. The boys were ready to play with their new Jordan uniforms (home whites with blue lettering and yellow trim- very classy). The Escanaba Eskymos traveled to the Lakeview Memorial Gymnasium for the game. Brady Guilbault brought you all of the game’s action on Sunny.FM 101.9.
First quarter action looked promising for our Negaunee Miners. Even though the Eskymos won the tip off Ben Willis, Miner, scored the first two points in the game. Each team was keeping up with each other until about the last three minutes. Escanaba came into this game with a very skilled point guard, Ryan Robinette, who scored most of the points for the Eskymos in the first quarter. 19-14 was the score at the end of one with the Miners trailing the Eskymos. The second quarter had a lot of free-throws for the Miners made mostly by Luke Mattson. Ryan Robinette, of the Eskymos, was a force for Escanaba that the Miners had a hard time dealing with. 30-23 was the score at halftime with the Miners trailing the Eskymos.
The second half of the game was dominated by the Eskymos between Ryan Robinette and Jared Nash. Jakson Sager jumped in about ten seconds into the third quarter to score for the Miners followed by another basket by Jacob Ennett also for the Miners. After the Eskymos scored ten points, Drew DuShane scored the last points of the third quarter with a nice power move. 46-31 was the score at the end of three with the Miners trailing the Eskymos. The fourth quarter started off great for the Miners as they came back fighting. Jason Waterman, Miner, scored a classic 3pnts right in the beginning of the fourth followed by Luke Mattson and Jason making four free- throws. Shortly after Negaunee got into the double- bonus, the Eskymos took control of the ball until the end of the game. The final score was 60-45 with the Eskymos taking the win. The Negaunee Boys are 0-1 for this season so far.
