01/06/15 Iron Mountain, Michigan – The Negaunee Miners Girls Basketball team traveled to Iron Mountain, Michigan on this cold and blustery night, to face the Iron Mountain Mountaineers. Jesse Anderson was there to bring you all the exciting basketball action on Sunny.FM.
The Iron Mountain Mountaineers won the tip to start the game against the Negaunee Miners. The first 2 minutes of the game were quiet, but the Mountaineers were first to score after a rebound from a missed free throw to lead the Miners 3-0. The Negaunee Miners scored a 3 point shot of their own on their next possession to tie 3-3 early in the first quarter. The Negaunee Miners came out with a slow start and the Iron Mountain Mountaineers led 10-5 with quarter half over. The Negaunee Miners defense struggled throughout the first quarter, but scored a long 3 pointer at the buzzer to trail 12-10 against the Iron Mountain Mountaineers on Sunny.FM.
It was nearly half way through the second quarter before the first points were scored. The Iron Mountain Mountaineers were first to score with a 3 point shot, to give them a five point lead against the Negaunee Miners 15-10. The Negaunee Miners continued to struggle throughout the first half of the game against the Iron Mountain Mountaineers and were only able to score 2 points in the second quarter. The Iron Mountain Mountaineers led 19-12 against the Negaunee Miners to end the half.
The Negaunee Miners were first to score in the third quarter against the Iron Mountain Mountaineers to trail 19-14. The Negaunee Miners were able to make it a 3 point game and trailed 19-16 early in the third quarter. The Iron Mountain Mountaineers took a 8 point lead with just under 4 minutes left in the quarter and led 26-18 against the Miners. The Miners found an offense push late in the third and only trailed by 3 points 26-23 against the Mountaineers with 3 minutes left in the quarter. Despite the Negaunee Miners efforts the quarter ended with the Iron Mountain Mountaineers leading 35-32.
The Negaunee Miners continued to struggle against the Iron Mountain Mountaineers defense in the fourth quarter of the game and trailed 39-32 with the quarter half over. The Iron Mountain Mountaineers took a commanding 10 point lead 42-32 with 3 minutes left in the game against the struggling Negaunee Miners. The Iron Mountain Mountaineers emerged from this game the victors with a win of 48-40 against the Negaunee Miners on Sunny.FM.
