Negaunee, Mi– December 29th, 2022– The Negaunee Miner Boy’s had an early start during winter break on their second day of double headers. They fought hard against Boyne City and prevailed with a score of . Carl Leander Johnson was on the scene for Sunny 101.9
The Negaunee Miner’s didn’t care that their last game was thirteen hours ago, Matthew Peters was first to score off of a rebound. Mason Sager scored two three pointers, Saunders was able to reach a score of six and Ty Jacobson was able to score a two pointer as well with some contest from Boyne City. The Negaunee Miners were able to reach a score of ten before Boyne City passed them with a turnover. Ty Jacobson scored a tipped rebound bringing the score up to 14-13 at the end of the first quarter.
The second quarter was close, the Miner’s started off with a three pointer from Saunders. He was able to bring his individual score to eight before the end of the half. Mason Sager, Matthew Peters and Ty Jacobson were all able to bring their scores up four points as well gaining a one point lead before the end of the half. 21-20
The third quarter moved quickly, with a starting rebound from Hewitt of The Boyne City Ramblers. Gavin Saunders reach an individual score of thirteen tying for a scoring lead against Alex Calcaterra. Ty Jacobson was able to reach a score of six as well. There was lots of back and forth due to the Rambler’s Jack Neer and Mason Wilcox, who refused to let the Gavin’s gain the ball from the wings.

Boyne City started off the fourth quarter with a three pointer, bringing Boyne’s lead to 32-28. The Miner’s were unable to gain an aggressive air, as Boyne’s lead climbed to seven. A timeout was called by Boyne City’s coach after eight score-free minutes for the Negaunee Miner’s. Gavin Saunders stopped the Miner’s drought, bringing The Rambler’s lead down to six before another timeout. The Ramblers quickly brought their lead back to eight thanks to Alex Calcaterra. Jace Turri scored a two pointer cutting the lead back down to six. Gavin Downey score his first bucket of the match, bringing the lead down to four with 1:44 left in the fourth quarter. Gavin Saunders scored a three pointer bringing his individual score to 19, peak for his team in comparison to the Ramblers. Calcaterra was able to score 21 points for Boyne City ending the game with a score of 46-39 after a series of free throws from both sides.
