Iron River, Mi– December 16th, 2022– The Negaunee Miners refused to lose Friday night against West Iron Wkyons after the Miner’s faced their first loss of the season to Marquette Wednesday night. Carl Leander Johnson was on the field reporting for Sunny 101.9
The first quarter was jam-packed with fast action. Brody Bell started off with the first bucket of the match for the Miners, giving them a two point lead. Gavin Saunders followed with a two pointer as well. Negaunee Continues to climb with a two pointer from Ty Jacobson. Brody Bell and Gavin Saunders quickly climbed to matching individual scores of six points, as Gavin Jacobson scored a three pointer ending the first quarter with a Negaunee lead 17-3
The Wykons moved quickly to tighten the lead in the second quarter, scoring six points before a counter from Brody Bell. Brody was able to break double digits, and continued to climb during the quarter bringing his individual score to twenty! Every player on the court this match was able to score for the Negaunee Miners. Ty Jacobson scored two three pointers, Matthew Peters had a few put backs as well as an offensive rebound. Gavin Saunders was able to score another two points as well. 51-17
The third quarter moved fast, with Gavin Saunders reaching the double digit mark and Bell reaching the
25 point mark. The match swapped to a running clock for the second half. Bell was able to score two three pointers, Downey scored seven points. 66-20
The final quarter finished with flare from the Negaunee Miners. Evan Gauthier scored his second two pointer of the match, bringing Negaunee to a score of 68. The Wkyons followed with a three pointer, but found themselves unable to make further ground. Evan Gauthier scored two more points before the match ended in a dramatic defeat of 70-30.
