Marquette, MI – July 23, 2019 – For eight years Marquette County residents have stepped up to help support our local students get ready to head back to school. This year, the 9th annual Stuff the Bus event will collect more new school supplies in an effect to help our community’s children in need.
Event founders, Holiday Inn of Marquette and YMCA of Marquette County believe that all children deserve a chance to start out the school year with the supplies they need to make their learning experience everything it should be.
Today Dee Dee Larson of Holiday Inn joined Mark Evans in the Sunny.FM studio to talk about the event and what everyone in the community can do to help our kids.
On Monday, August 5th a Checker Transport School Bus will be in the Holiday Inn parking lot from 10a to 6p. The Stuff the Bus event accepts all types of school supplies including:
- Back Packs
- Pens & Pencils
Just after 6pm the bus will make it’s way to the YMCA where staff will divide up school supplies up to make sure it gets to all of the Marquette County Schools. Our kids in need will get everything the need, whether they’re in Gwinn, Ishpeming, Marquette ,or even Powell and Michigamme.
During the interview Larson also pointed out that many teachers often have to buy classrooms supplies out of their own pockets. Stuff the Bus will also be taking items to help support our teaching staff such as:
- Hand sanitize
- Small storage containers
- Dry Erase Markers
This drive is put on specifically during local store sales so you can help support Marquette County students while saving and getting the most bang for your buck! If you can’t make it to the Holiday Inn of Marquette on Monday between 10a-6p, the front desk will be taking donations all weekend, holding them behind the desk until Monday! Cash donations are also always welcome and accepted to help cover special items, fund specific classes, or even individual students.
