I hope you stopped by the Westwood Mall and got a hug from Santa last night!

Marquette, MI  –  December 8, 2015  –  This year’s annual Marquette Township Catch the Christmas Spirit Tree Lighting Ceremony was a big hit!

The Westwood Mall parking lot was packed last night as hundreds of families gathered around the beautiful, 33-foot Christmas tree donated by Jim O’Dovero and sang Christmas carols with the Marquette Redmen Chorale.

The Grinch showed up again and tried to steal Christmas, but the Marquette County Sheriff’s Department apprehended him and saved the township Christmas once again. I hope they throw the book at the mean ol’ Grinch this time – He’s a repeat offender!

Bye-bye, Mr. Grinch!

Santa’s reindeer were a little tired from the flight to Marquette, so they relaxed at the township fire hall. The firemen loaded Santa Claus up on a fire truck and made sure he got to the mall on time to flip the big red switch and light the township tree.

The kids were all smiles as Santa stepped down from the fire truck and made his way to the big stage to sing Jolly Old St. Nicholas with the Marquette Redmen Chorale. After he flipped the switch and lit the tree, the children followed Santa Claus to the mall so they could visit with him and have pictures taken.

The mall looked like a winter wonderland and it was the perfect setting for the children to wait for Santa and have snacks. Biggby Coffee was there to provide coffee for all the adults, Honor Credit Union popped over 300 bags of popcorn for the kids, and Super One Foods donated Christmas cookies for everyone!
