If you love pico de gallo, but you need to keep your sodium levels down, don’t fret. Skip the deli where they add too much salt and make your own. Homemade pico de gallo is not only delicious, but easy to make. Here’s my favorite recipe:
3 large tomatoes, seeded and diced
1 medium onion, diced
1/4 bunch fresh cilantro, chopped fine (more or less according to taste)
2 jalapeno peppers, chopped fine (or more if you prefer it hotter)
juice of 1 lime
pinch of salt
Mix all ingredients in a medium bowl and chill at least one hour. Serve with baked tortilla chips.
If you prefer a smooth salsa, simply place ingredients in a blender and blend to desired consistency.
