Rock – American Legion Post 559 of Rock will conduct a Memorial Day ceremony on Monday, May 30 at 10 a.m. at the Rock Cemetery.
Post Commander Wayne Roy will lead the ceremony. State Trooper Jeremy Hauswirth will sing the national anthem. Hauswirth’s brother, John, who recently returned from his second tour of duty with the U.S. Army in Iraq, will be the speaker. Bugler Allan Jokela Jr. will conclude the program with the playing of “Taps.”
Prior to the ceremony, the legion will dedicate a new flag pole at the cemetery. It will be dedicated to Robert Weingartner, a charter member of the post, with donations provided by his family, Mid-Peninsula School students, Maple Ridge Township and the legion post.
In the event of inclement weather, the Rock and Perkins American Legion posts will conduct a joint ceremony at 11 a.m. at the Perkins Lions Club.
