The best way to celebrate the first day of spring, or anything for that matter is with music!
You are officially invited to dance and sing with me during the Workday Wind Down from 3-7 today.
I was curious if there were any other methods used to commemorate a day as special as today around the world, and sure enough I found a few curious traditions.
Poland residents use the Marzanna doll to recognize the end of winter. The locals make the dolls, usually out of straw, dress them up a bit, take them for a walk through town together in a parade like fashion…then with a mighty throw, toss the little dollies into the first river or body of water they see…and drown them. How very memorable!
Switzerland appreciates fire in contrast to the water Poland uses to draw attention to the fact that winter is over.
The Swiss wait until the first blooms of spring begin to blossom and perfume the air with the sweetness all flowers release. At just the right moment they bring out Boogg, the snowman…… and burn him at the stake. How precious. (I am laughing out loud you understand)
Clearly people are done with winter when dolls are drowned and snowmen are burned.
My bathrobe sleeve caught on fire this morning as I was attempting to make some eggs….
I was distracted by a chirping bird…or a screaming snowman…I can’t quite remember.
