Negaunee, Mich. – The 2011 Mid Peninsula Conference football opener was a success for the Negaunee Miners this past Friday with a 40 – 20 win over their traditional opening opponent the Manistique Emeralds.

Negaunee opened the scoring the first time they touched the football.  After holding Manistique three-and-out on the Emeralds first posession, Senior Zach Marshall (left)collected in a Jake Syers punt and raced up the right sideline with blockers in front.  Marshall broke the pile and raced 80 yards to give Negaunee a 7 – 0 lead after just three minutes of play.

From there it was the Tyler Beaumont/Adam Wainio show as the Miners started banging out their ground attack on their second drive.  Beaumont (right) would eventually take the ball from Quarterback Tanner Uren and cut left at the line outrunning the Emeralds defense on his way to a 49 yard touchdown and a 13 – 7 Negaunee lead.

Beaumont would finish the evening with two touchdowns on the ground and 157 rushing yards on the evening.

Marshall also scored twice, the second a 35 yard catch on a pass from Uren in the second quarter.  Uren also scored on the ground from four yards out, while senior Lucas Christianson also scored in the fourth quarter on a 52 yard cary down the far sideline; as the Miners banged out 415 yards of total offense and 20 first downs in the game.
