MTU Board Approves New Strategic Plan, Increases Tuition

    Houghton, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – Michigan Technological University’s Board of Control has approved a new strategic plan for the Houghton school.

    The board says the plan will focus on exceptional and diverse people, distinctive educational programs, and research, innovation and entrepreneurship to position Michigan Tech as a leading global technological university.

    In support of the plan, the Board approved issuing $25 million in general revenue bonds for renovations to student living space and University-wide safety improvements.

    The Board passed a preliminary general fund operating budget of $173.3 million for next year, marking a 3 percent increase over the current budget.

    Included in the budget is a 3.9 percent increase in average tuition and fees.

    In other business, the Board formally changed its name from Board of Control to Board of Trustees.
