Contractor Chosen For New Marquette Hospital

    Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – UP Health System–Marquette has named the general contractor for the construction of their new Marquette hospital.

    The firm Skanska Closner will build the $300-million, 265-bed hospital and 80,000-square foot medical office building at the former Roundhouse/Municipal Service Center property near US-41 on Baraga Avenue.

    Skanska Closner is a partnership between Skanska USA and Closner Construction.

    Skanska USA is one of the largest construction and development companies and healthcare builders in the U.S. and built the Mackinac Straits Health System in St. Ignace and Baraga County Memorial Hospital in L’Anse.

    Closner Construction, based in Marquette, built previous expansion and renovation projects for UP Health System–Marquette.

    Groundbreaking is set for Spring 2016 with construction to be completed in early 2018.
