Coast Guard Rescues Kayaker From Lake Superior

Munising, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – The U.S. Coast Guard is reporting the rescue of a stranded kayaker from Lake Superior on Friday.

The Coast Guard received the report from a kayaker around 1:00 p.m. that he and three other kayakers had capsized near Grand Island and become separated.

A Coast Guard rescue boat was launched from Marquette and a rescue helicopter was called out from Air Station Traverse City.

A crew from the National Park Service in Munising also responded and arrived on scene.

The helicopter crew was able to pull the kayaker from the water and the Coast Guard says all other kayakers made it to shore safely.

No names were released.
