Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – Bay College is one of 18 community colleges in Michigan gaining state-of-the-art equipment and training materials for students through a $50 million grant program.

The state funding will come through the Community College Skilled Trades Equipment Program in an effort to help close a talent gap and meet a demand for good-paying jobs.

Governor Rick Snyder announced in October that the grant program was created to provide funding that enables Michigan community colleges to purchase equipment required for educational programs in high-demand skilled occupations.

Bay College will receive just under $749,000 as part of an overall $1 million package for educating students in the fields of EMT/Paramedic, Welding, Water Resource Management and Mechatronics.

The Michigan Strategic Fund has authorized issuing bonds to fund the program.
