Washington, D.C. – (Great Lakes Radio News) – The U.S. House of Representatives has passed a measure calling for increased accountability in the Veteran’s Administration that was co-sponsored by an Upper Michigan lawmaker.

The VA Accountability First and Appeals Modernization Act, co-sponsored by Congressman Dan Benishek, passed by a vote of 310-116.

The bill authorizes the VA Secretary to fire or demote any VA employee for performance or misconduct, increase protections for whistleblowers and reforms the VA’s appeals process.

It also eliminates all bonuses for VA Senior Executive Service Employees for FY 2017-2021.
