Lansing, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – Fines have been announced against Enbridge Energy over the oil spill in the Kalamazoo River in lower Michigan back in 2010.
Final fines of 61-million dollars have been levied by the EPA and the U.S. Department of Justice for the 843-thousand gallons of oil that spilled into the river.
The state already reached a 75-million dollar settlement with Enbridge last year for the spill and it also agreed to pay four million for river restoration projects.
Enbridge says the spill cost one-point-two billion dollars to clean up.
