Gogebic County, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – Cleanup is continuing today following strong thunderstorms and heavy rain that moved across portions of the Upper Peninsula overnight.

Reports say wind gusts over 70 miles an hour and torrential downpours occurred in Gogebic County last night and early this morning.

Trees and power lines were knocked down and some buildings were damaged as the storm moved from northern Wisconsin into Upper Michigan.

Reports say the National Weather Service confirmed an EF1 tornado touched down in Bessemer Township just before midnight central time.

The damage was in an area about 200 yards wide and just over 2 miles long.

Winds were estimated at 90 miles per hour. Up to 5 inches of rain was estimated to have fallen over isolated sections of Gogebic County and along Lake Superior.

No injuries have been reported.
