Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – An agreement has been reached between Marquette Township and the Peter White Public Library in Marquette for library services for Township residents.

The previous contract, which was in place since 1993, was terminated by the Township in January.

Township officials said that contract was drawn up to run indefinitely and was placing an undue financial burden on the Township.

The original agreement had to be ended before a new one could be negotiated, and that is why they voted to do so.

The new contract is essentially the same as the original, but only runs for two years at a time.  It is subject to review by the Township and the Library Board before future renewals.

It also maintains the current Township millage rate for next year, but it will be on the ballot for Township voters in November.
