Marquette Township, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – State Police at the Negaunee Post have released an update of their investigation into a three-vehicle crash involving a Marquette County Sheriff’s vehicle last Friday night in Marquette Township.

State Police say the patrol car was driven by a Deputy Kurin who was responding to a call for backup.

Deputy Kurin was eastbound on US-41 approaching a red light at the intersection and crashed into a northbound 2007 Ford Freestyle driven by 26-year-old Zhonetelle Tucker of Marquette.

Tucker was crossing the intersection and had the right of way with a green light.

The patrol car then hit a 2013 Subaru driven by 25-year-old Christy Tuominen of Hibbing, MN.

Tuominen was stopped in the westbound US-41 left turn lane.

Kurin and Tucker were hospitalized for injuries. Tuominen was not injured in the crash but a front seat passenger, 22-year-old Tanja Mattonen from Hibbing, MN, sought her own treatment for a minor injury.

24-year-old Celia Hinstala of Proctor, MN was a back seat passenger and was also hospitalized for her injuries.

All were treated and released later that evening.
