Ishpeming Township, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – One man was taken into custody yesterday after a standoff with police in Ishpeming Township.

A 9-1-1 call came in around 2:40 p.m. of shots fired in a home on Christine Street.

A 43-year-old Ishpeming Township man, who was believed to be suicidal, was said to have fired the shots at the residence where he lived.

Officers arriving on scene found the man in his front yard with a significant amount of blood on his left hand.

He refused to talk with officers and went inside the residence.

A short time later, officers heard two shots fired inside. Police say the man went in and out several times and on at least one occasion, came outside holding a long gun.

Around 5:30 p.m. the man came outside with a handgun and approached the street.

Police attempted to take the man into protective custody, but after he did not comply with verbal commands, they fired at least one non-lethal bean bag round to subdue him.

He was hospitalized for a psychological evaluation.

No charges have been filed and the Marquette County Prosecutor is reviewing the case.
