Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – A Michigan Department of Corrections officer has been found guilty of assault.

49-year-old Danny Johnson was accused of hitting an inmate that he was transporting on a bus last fall to the Kinross Correctional Facility in Chippewa County from the Oaks Correctional Facility in downstate Manistee.

The prisoner testified that Johnson hit him after exchanging some words, but Johnson’s attorney says the prisoner spit on Johnson first.

The prisoner said he tried to spit on Johnson after Johnson punched him.

Johnson testified that he believed he acted in self defense. He faces up to 93 days in jail and a 500-dollar fine.
