Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – Authorities have released the identities of the two people who drowned in Lake Superior Saturday near Little Presque Isle in Marquette County.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office says two 22-year-old women, Kaylilyn Tansey of Grand Ledge and Abigail Sprinkle of Marquette, were swimming to a nearby rock in the lake around 3:00 p.m.

Tansey was not able to make it to the rock and was swept under by currents.

24-year-old Justin Schroepher of Rhinelander, Wisconsin attempted to swim out to rescue Tansey.

Bystanders were able to rescue Sprinkle from the rock, but the other two drowned.

Their bodies were recovered later in the day.
