Washington, D.C. – (Great Lakes Radio News) – Legislation authored by Upper Michigan Congressman Dan Benishek protecting sportsmen and women’s rights has been passed in the U.S House.

Benishek’s measure is called the Recreational Fishing and Hunting Heritage and Opportunities Act.

Benishek says it would create an “open until closed” policy for sporting use of federal land and would block threats from interest groups that seek to limit hunting, fishing and shooting on federal properties.

It was passed as part of an amendment to the Energy Policy Modernization Act and now moves on to a House and Senate Conference Committee.
