Marquette, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – An Upper Michigan man has been sentenced in Federal Court in Marquette to five years in prison on a domestic violence charge.

23-year-old Peter Meshigaud of Wilson was sentenced to 60 months imprisonment for domestic assault and being an habitual offender.

He was also ordered to pay restitution to the Hannahville Indian Community Housing Department in the amount just over $1,100.

The court said Meshigaud’s extensive criminal history, which includes two prior domestic assaults, malicious destruction of property, and assault and battery was a factor in the lengthy sentence.

In April, Meshigaud plead guilty to a federal indictment charging him with Domestic Assault-Habitual Offender, related to an October 2013 assault on his then girlfriend at their residence at the Hannahville Indian Community reservation.
