Woman Charged With OWI In Fatal U.P. Crash

Sault Ste. Marie, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – An Ontario, Canada woman has been arrested after a fatal traffic accident in the eastern U.P.

State Police at the Sault Ste. Marie Post say the two-vehicle accident happened around 9:00 p.m. Friday in Chippewa County’s Soo Township.

19-year old Jared Baragwanath of Brimley and a 19-year-old unidentified passenger were injured when their northbound vehicle was struck head-on by an oncoming southbound car driven by 23-year-old Stacy Linklater of Soo, Canada on Mackinaw Trail near Three Mile Road.

Baragwanath later died of his injuries.

The passenger was also hospitalized but there is no word on their condition at this time.

Linklater was not seriously injured.

She was arrested after the accident and has been arraigned one count of Operating While Intoxicated Causing Death.

The accident remains under investigation.
