Marquette County Search & Rescue Called Out Last Night

Marquette Search and Rescue called out to Wetmore Pond last nightMARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News)Marquette County Search & Rescue was called out yesterday evening to Wetmore Pond in Marquette Township around 6 p.m. on a report of a lost hiker.

19-year-old Melissa York of downstate Harbor Springs was hiking near Wetmore Pond when she became lost as darkness fell.

She was able to call 9-1-1 on her cell phone and reach Marquette County Central Dispatch.  Authorities were able to get a GPS location from her phone and search and rescue crews were able to use the coordinates to locate York just after 7 p.m. on an old railroad grade just east of Wetmore Pond.

York did not need any medical attention and she was taken back to her vehicle without incident.
