110th District State Representative Scott Dianda

Lansing, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – State Representative Scott Dianda voted no on a 3rd Grade Reading Level bill in the State House this week, saying he has heard from educators who say the state should not be mandating when students be held back.

The Calumet Democrat says the state mandate essentially tells local teachers and parents that they don’t know best.

Dianda says local teachers are better equipped to know when they should talk to parents about holding a child back.

Dianda says state mandates on local schools asking them to add new programs when they are already struggling to afford existing programs is the wrong way to go about improving reading skills.
