Clean up for MTU library continuesMARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – Cleanup and recovery efforts continue after a fire on Friday at the Michigan Technological University Archives inside the J.R. Van Pelt Library.

Officials say the sprinkler system did its job in putting out the flames, but University Archivist Erik Nordberg said it also soaked the historic records in the area.  A disaster recovery and restoration company is working to preserve the materials.

The cause of the fire has not been determined. In the meantime, the library is open to the public but the archives remain closed until further notice.
