Hurricane Sandy’s Effect on the U.P.

    Hurricane Sandy effecting the U.P. MARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – Even though the brunt of Hurricane Sandy will be felt along the eastern seaboard, the Great Lakes will feel the effects as well.

    The National Weather Service has issued Great Lakes gale and storm warnings in effect through Wednesday. It says waves on Lake Michigan could be 10 to 18 feet today and tonight, then build to 20 to 33 feet on Tuesday before subsiding.

    Waves on parts of Lake Superior and Lake Huron could be up to 24-feet.  Dangerous conditions are expected along piers and breakwalls in areas including southwestern Lower Michigan.

    Snow linked to the storm could fall in parts of Michigan.  As of Sunday night, Sandy is being blamed for 65 deaths in the Caribbean as it makes its way up the east coast of the U.S.
