MARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – The Michigan Department of Natural Resources has entered into a management partnership for a popular all-terrain-vehicle trail in the Copper Country.
The Keweenaw ATV Trail agreement between the DNR and the Keweenaw ATV Club will cooperatively manage the Houghton and Keweenaw County ATV trail; a 54-mile trail that runs mostly on private land from Calumet to Copper Harbor.
The agreement, which also has the DNR designating the trail as a restricted ORV route, was signed during the regular meeting of the Natural Resources Commission earlier this month in Ontonagon.
Representatives from both groups say the agreement presents a workable plan that addresses maintenance, rider access and potential funding for improvements.
