Obama Nominates NMU Grad For Advisory Position

Washington, D.C. – (Great Lakes Radio News) – A Northern Michigan University graduate has been appointed to a National Advisory Council position by President Barack Obama.

Aaron Payment, the current Tribal Chair of the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians has been nominated by the President to serve on the National Advisory Council on Indian Education.

Payment has been Tribal Chair since 2012 and previously from 2004 to 2008.

Payment has held several Native American educational and development positions with various tribes as well as at NMU and Lake Superior State University.

Payment received his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees from Northern Michigan University.
