Marquette County Board of Commissioners attempting to resolve proposed mining tax

MARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – The Marquette County Board of Commissioners is continuing with attempts to resolve issues with a proposed mining tax and its potential impact on the county.

At their regular board meeting last night, Commissioners discussed the possible Mining Severance Tax.  That tax would change the amount of money Marquette County receives from taxes on mining operations.

The board unanimously agreed to sending a letter to the Governor’s office requesting a meeting be held among all groups affected by the possible tax.  The letter would call on the state and local governments, mining companies, municipalities and other stakeholders to come together to develop a consolidated proposal in response to the proposed severance tax.

No timetable for the meeting has been set.
