Dompierre can play football and basektball at Ishpeming for his senior year

MARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – The Ishpeming School District has been notified by the Michigan High School Athletic Association that 19-year-old Eric Dompierre will be allowed to play sports this year.

The governing body of high school sports announced yesterday that the Districts request for an age eligibility waiver had been approved.  The approval allows Dompierre, who has Down syndrome, to play football and basketball this year, which is his senior year.

Following a two-and-a-half year effort to get the MHSAA to change it’s age eligibility requirements, the agency recently voted, through it’s member schools, to allow schools to apply for exceptions for individual students on a case by case basis.
