MARQUETTE, MI – (Great Lakes Radio News) – A 37-year-old man will stand trial on multiple charges stemming from a family squabble and standoff incident in the Western Upper Peninsula last month.
Bobby Joe Nordstrom of Iron River waived his preliminary examination in Iron County trial court Monday and entered not guilty pleas to the charges.
According to police, Nordstrom was fighting with family members on July 8th in Iron River Township. When the fighting escalated, he grabbed a gun and fired off two rounds. Police say Nordstrom then barricaded himself in a family member’s house. After a brief stand off with police, he surrendered.
Nordstrom is charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm, two counts of felonious assault, and a misdemeanor count of possession of a firearm while under the influence of alcohol.
A pre-trial evaluation is scheduled for September 10th. Since Nordstrom is listed as an habitual offender-fourth charge, he could spend up to life in prison if he’s convicted.
